Shri Venkateshwara University/Institute organized a 1-day workshop on post-harvest technologies for managing horticulture produce on World Food Day.
Experts from IARI, Research Council GOI, and Pantnagar Agriculture University discussed securing global food supply through better storage and nutrition preservation.
They discussed measures to double the farmer’s income in the coming days.
The Group Chairman, Dr Sudhir Giri, Chief Advisor Dr VPS Arora, Pro Chancellor Dr Rajiv Tyagi, & the Chief Speaker Prof. Ramashray Singh inaugurated the workshop by lighting a lamp to Goddess Saraswati.
The VC Dr Rakesh Yadav, & the Registrar Dr Piyush Pandey joined them to inaugurate the food security workshop on World Food day.
The Group Chairman, Dr Sudhir Giri, reiterated agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. Through a strong agriculture policy, we can double farmer’s income and once again become a world leader. The path to the country’s happiness traverses through the villages of India.
Further, the Chief Guest & Chief Scientist, ICAR, Dr Ramashray Singh opined we all should join hands to curb food wastage. If we do not stop it now, then the entire world will suffer from food insecurity, as experienced by South Africa, Somalia & Ethiopia.
Moreover, Dr. VPS Arora, a renowned Agriculture Scientist and Chief Advisor, believes that by improving the storage and nutritional maintenance of harvested crops, we can vastly increase farmers’ income.
Dr. Rajiv Tyagi, the Pro Chancellor, emphasized that India is primarily an agrarian society. The agricultural sector, along with animal husbandry, dairying, and organic farming, provides plentiful opportunities for skilled young individuals.
Dr. T P Singh, the Chief Scientist at ICAR, stated that when farmers engage in food production and processing themselves, it not only increases their income but also significantly boosts the country’s GDP.
The attendees were agriculture scientists Dr Tejpal Singh, Dr CP Singh from Pantnagar, Dr Rajesh Singh, Dr Divya Girdhar, CA Mr. Vikas Bhatia, Dr SN Sahu, Dr Shweta Gupta, and Dr Jyoti Singh.
Dr Mata Prasad, Dr Laxmikant, Dr Asiya Wahid, Siddhartha, Kaushal Kumar. SS Baghel, Sanjiv Rai & Pritpal were all present.
