BCA admission is based either on marks gained in the qualifying examination or through the entrance exam. Many universities shortlist candidates based on their marks in the qualifying exam, which is 12th, while others shortlist based on their score in the entrance test.

As per the AICTE circular the last date up to which Institutes can admit 1st year students is 23 October 2024 for the 2024-25 academic session.
The last date for commencement of classes for 1st year students of Technical courses is 23 October 2024.
The last date for lateral entry admission to 2nd year courses is 23 October 2024.

Most Government colleges consider the CUET score for granting admission in BCA.
Hence, candidates should be familiar with the CUET syllabus so that they score higher for BCA admission in Government College.
BCA Entrance exam syllabus
| Entrance Exam | Details |
| MAKAUT CET | The syllabus for the Undergraduate course consists of General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English, and Numerical Ability. The total number of questions is 50 and there is no negative marking. Candidates must prepare for Reasoning and Numerical Ability with the help of RS Aggarwal’s books. |
| SET | The syllabus for this entrance is divided into four sections: General English, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. All the sections are mandatory and the total mark for the exam is 60. Candidates must complete the entrance exam within one hour and consist of no negative marking. |
| CUET UG | The entrance exam consists of questions from the English language which are tested through Comprehension passages. The questions on Domain subjects are asked from the Class 12th NCERT level. The entrance also tests the General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, and Quantitative Reasoning abilities of the candidates. |
| IPU CET | The syllabus for IPUCET consists of four sections namely: English Language & Comprehension, Mathematics, Computer Awareness and General Knowledge- IT and Science Related. Candidates must prepare computer-related knowledge of Class 12th level to clear this examination. |
BCA Admission Eligibility
10+2 with 45% marks for GEN/OBC and for SC/ST 40% marks. (Art with math’s)/Ag/Bio/Science/Commerce) Math’s mandatory at High School or intermediate.
The BCA admission eligibility criteria is more or less similar across all colleges with slight alterations.
Candidates should complete admission formalities well before the tentative BCA admission last date in 2025, which shall fall in the last week of October or the 1st week of November.
Students should check the websites of colleges where they wish to take admission because accordingly they can make their preparations.
CUET (Common University Entrance test) is the widely accepted entrance test that institutes consider while offering BCA admission.
BCA admission is the dream of many because BCA course allows students of all streams to pursue computer science.
