Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) is one of best teacher training programs precisely for Primary teachers who intend to teach classes (I to V) and Upper primary classes (VI to VIII).

The recent Supreme Court Judgement for D.El.Ed is significant because only D.El.Ed is now eligible for Primary teacher posts and not B.Ed.

This development has renewed interest in D.El.Ed earlier BTC, as it’s the defined qualification for primary teaching.

All schools start from Primary classes and go all the way up. Hence, Primary teachers are crucial because they build a firm foundation in earlier classes leading to a sound academic journey.

D.El.Ed is a 2 years Diploma course specifically suited to teach primary classes as they prepare engaging TLMs that arouse the child’s interest. The course runs into 4 semesters and it’s the basic qualification for teaching elementary classes.

Eligibility for D.El.Ed: Graduation in any traditional discipline with minimum 50% marks. In case of a professional degree with a minimum of 55% marks. 5% relaxation to SC/ST candidates in both the cases. Age should be between 18 to 35 years. For SC/ST/OBC: 18 to 40 years and for Physically Handicapped: 18 to 50 years.

Some famous teacher training programs in India

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed): The 2 years B.Ed course is the basic qualification for teaching because up till now they were eligible to teach all classes from Primary to Senior Secondary. Graduate teachers with a B.ed are called Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and we refer to Post Graduates as Post Graduate Teachers (PGT).

B.Ed comprises 4 semesters and trains with the intricacies of teaching.

Eligibility for B.Ed: Candidates with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Science/Social Sciences/ Humanities, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science & Mathematics with 55% marks. 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidate. + UP JEE B.Ed Counselling.

Most states and Universities conduct entrance exams for short-listing candidates for the B.Ed course. The UP B.Ed JEE is one such exam that is held every year to select candidates for the B.Ed course.

The demand for B.ed is increasing every year because teaching is a noble profession with good earning potential. Under the 7th pay commission, teachers receive good salaries that motivate youngsters to become educators.

Private schools pay them well because they want to attract the most talented in the lot. A teacher teaches all other professions, hence society revers them in high esteem as they nurture the future of the country.

For becoming Government teachers, one should clear CTET or other state teacher eligibility tests as it’s mandatory to apply for Government posts.

The kendriya Vidyala Sangathan (KVS) and Navoday Vidyala are the Central Government school chains that recruit CTET qualified teachers through an entrance test.

Various teacher Courses after 12th

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has approved a 4 year’s teacher teaching program after 12th, allowing students to enrol right after finishing school.

The B.A.B.Ed and B.Sc. B.ed are teacher training programs that students can do after class 12th. They save 1 year for the candidate as they complete in 4 years and award dual degrees of BA/BSc and B.ed together.

The regular B.ed completes in 5 years, i.e. 3 years to graduate and 2 years for B.Ed. This way it saves 1 year which students can use to prepare for teacher eligibility tests.

Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed): Similarly B.El.Ed is another teacher training program that students can do after class 12th.
