Elementary education diploma or the diploma in Elementary education (D.El.Ed) is a 2 year course which candidates can pursue after graduation.

It’s a 4 semester course that prepares for primary teaching roles in Government & Private schools.

The elementary education diploma holders can teach primary (I to IV) & Upper primary (VI to VIII) classes.

The course is job oriented because schools need Primary teachers as they start from Primary level & then go to higher classes.

They build a solid foundation in the primary classes, leading to conceptual clarity in later stages.

Diploma in elementary education IGNOU

As per the IGNOU website, the IGNOU elementary education diploma (D.El.Ed.) is not on offer from the July 2019 session. IGNOU has discontinued this course because of certain procedural difficulties.

D.El.Ed job salary

The average salary for elementary education diploma holders is INR 2.5 LPA- 5.5 LPA, which increases with experience and skill development. There is no scarcity of jobs for primary teachers as new schools are mushrooming everywhere.

The D.El.Ed course fees range between INR 5000–80000 as Government institutions have subsidized fees compared to self-financing ones.

D.El.Ed teacher qualification

Graduation in any traditional discipline with minimum 50% marks. In case of a professional degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

5% relaxation to SC/ST candidates in both the cases. Age should be between 18 to 35 years. For SC/ST/OBC: 18 to 40 years and for Physically Handicapped: 18 to 50 years.

In UP BTC is the other name for D.El.Ed and after completing D.El.Ed candidates are eligible to pursue M.Ed. which is the postgraduate qualification in teaching.

Desirous candidates should note that authorities have extended the last date to apply for UP D.El.Ed till 24 August. The selection for UP D.El.Ed is based on merit and there is no entrance exam for doing D.El.Ed in UP.

D.El.Ed admission 2023

As mentioned earlier, the authorities have extended the D.El.Ed admission last date in UP till August 24, allowing candidates to apply before time.

As per the CCS university guidelines, elementary education diploma (D.El.Ed) holders are eligible to pursue M.Ed. which qualifies them for senior teaching roles in colleges.

To apply for D.El.Ed in UP candidates should first register themselves at https://updeled.gov.in/Registration/DReghome.aspx and follow the guidelines to apply for the prestigious D.El.Ed course.

D.El.Ed course fees in Private Colleges

Private colleges are a wonderful option for pursuing D.El.Ed because they adopt innovative teaching methods that impart futuristic teaching skills.

In UP, the average D.El.Ed course fees in private colleges is INR 81170, whereas in Delhi NCR its 74650. While in Punjab private colleges charge INR 76800 while in MP they charge 75580 as the average D.El.Ed fees.

Meanwhile, in Haryana, the average D.El.Ed fees charged by private colleges is INR 47130, while in Rajasthan its 1.03 lakhs. Likewise, in HP, the average D.El.Ed course fees is 54690 while in Assam its 53250 only.

The fees charged depend on many factors, like the reputation of the institution & the facilities they offer to budding teachers. Candidates should check the fees with individual colleges where they plan to take admission.

Career Prospects

There is no dearth of jobs for elementary teachers because they lay a firm foundation in the early classes, thus generating interest in studies.

They can teach Primary (I–V) and upper Primary classes (V-VIII) which opens a plethora of opportunities for elementary education diploma holders.

D.El.Ed holders can pursue M.Ed. which is an advanced qualification in teaching, making them eligible for college jobs.
