What is Scope for B.Com?

The scope for B.Com is widespread, as it’s an accounting & taxation degree widely accepted in commercial entities.

B.Com graduates work as accountants in business entities because they are experts in accounts and taxation.

B.Com degree holders can find employment in various industries, including marketing, accounting, consultancies, investment banking, banks, capital management, etc.

Many businesses favour them over others because of their extensive and varied academic experience.

After completing a B.Com degree, one can find employment in the banking, accounting, and finance industries.

There are many professional courses after B.Com that one might opt for. Since the finance department is one of the four cornerstones of any organization, finance and accounting are crucial to all industries. 

Firms hire accountants to manage their profit & loss statements because commercial viability is crucial for survival.

Scope for B.Com in different sectors:

Banks – It’s natural for B.com graduates to opt for the banking sector because banks have large-scale accounting operations. A B.Com graduate is adept at managing financial transactions that banks perform daily.

Both private & PSU banks prefer B.Com graduates as they study banking operations as part of their course. A plethora of private sector banks are operating in the country that offer excellent employment prospects to commerce graduates.

For PSU, banks candidates can appear in various exams that IBPS, & SBI conducts for recruiting officers and executives.

Finance–India is home to many Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFC) that offer secured & unsecured loan for various purposes. They work under RBI regulations and cannot accept deposits, but are concerned with financing activities.

These NBFC’s employ B.Com graduates as they are deft in accounting, taxation, & commercial operations. Some of the NBFC’s working in India are Bajaj Capital, Shriram Finance, HDB Financial services, Cholamandalam & many others.

Accounting  – As discussed earlier, there is a tremendous scope for B.com graduates in accounting because they are dexterous in managing accounts and finances of the company. All firms want to have clean accounts because they want to reduce the cost of auditing every year.

Insurance–The insurance sector is recording a phenomenal growth ever since the IRDAI allowed for FDI to the tune of 49%.

This has paved the way for foreign insurance companies forging joint ventures with India entities, thus providing a fillip to the Insurance sector.

India offers a vast market because of its middle class having good purchasing power. The scope for B.Com increases because both life and general insurance products are popular with the masses.

The B.com graduates are experts in accounting who service clients by quoting premium and other benefits as part of their insurance plan.

In Taxation & banking

Taxation–In this domain, B.com holders can become chartered accountants, financial risk managers, tax consultants, tax specialists, senior tax managers, tax compliance managers, cost estimators, lecturers, stockbrokers, financial analysts, and actuaries.

Many people struggle to file tax returns because they cannot file returns online. B.Com graduates assist clients in filing returns and generate their tax statement, saving them from last-minute hassles.  

In fact, after the launch of GST, the scope for b.com has increased as businesses struggle to file tax returns requiring the help of qualified tax experts.

Education–There is tremendous scope for B.Com graduates in the education sector because commerce stream is the choice for many students. Students can pursue a B.Ed and accordingly become a TGT or PGT.

Those clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET) become eligible for lecturer jobs and have a satisfying teaching career.

Wealth Management–If you are knowledgeable about the various investment options that provide good returns, then wealth management is an ideal career for you.

With knowledge of accounts & business mathematics, B.com graduates can become wealth managers & help people create wealth through smart investment moves.

Scope for B.Com corporate secretary ship

A company secretary maintains the statutory compliance as per the company laws so that legal issues don’t affect the working of the firm. B.Com graduates can pursue the CS course and pass the required examinations to become a company secretary.

For graduates, the CS course has only 2 levels: the Executive & professional level. Once a candidate clears both the levels, they have to undergo training, after which they are a qualified company Secretary.

There is a good scope for B.Com graduates to become CS because they study Company law in their Bcom course. This puts them at ease doing company secretary ship as they have already studied the laws during graduation.

According to regulations, any public or private companies that have a paid-up share capital of at least ten crore rupees must appoint a full-time company secretary. All businesses listed must have a full-time key managerial staff. These key administrative personnel include:

A full-time Director and other officers defined under the Companies Act (2013).

B.Com graduates are eligible for various government jobs as accounts & financial managers are crucial for every department. The many vacancies where a B.Com is eligible are:

Eligibility for B.Com

10+2 or equivalent with Commerce /Science pass from a recognized Board with a minimum of 45% marks.5% relaxation to SC/ST candidate candidates.
